Peruvian Biodiversity

Due to its large variety of microclimates, Peru is a perfect place for growing almost any agricultural product. Peru is divided into three main regions: Costa (the coast, in yellow), Sierra (the mountains, in brown), and Selva (the jungle, in green), each having a different and very contrasting environment.

Each region, however, contains special ecological niches and microclimates generated by ocean currents, the wide range of Andean altitudes, solar angles, and the configurations of the vast Amazonian area. As a consequence of these particularities, thirty-four ecological subregions have been identified, making Peru one of the most biodiverse countries in the world.

Hidden in these regions are many food products that have nourished ancient civilizations, but have yet to reach the outside world, in large part because the agricultural regions of Peru are generally the most impoverished. Farmers have no way to connect with consumers in developed countries and show them they wonder products like Sacha Inchi. Aysana Foods is their bridge, helping low-income farmers serve health-conscious and flavor-conscious consumers in North America and Europe.
